In the Showa era, women were forced to give themselves to men because of their poverty. Some to save her sick husband, some to her sons, and some to shoulder the debts of her parents. From an outsider's perspective, it may seem like a pitiful story, but life is about not knowing what lies ahead. Even more so if you are a woman, I think there is a fundamental eros in the appearance of women who live boldly without being discouraged by the environment in which they are placed.
